Neighborhood description
If Testaccio is the undiscovered Rome, then Ostiense is the undiscovered Testaccio. Its urban metamorphosis hasn’t quite reached the height of its northern neighbor, but co-ed crowds are beginning to recognize Ostiense's restaurant and nightlife scene as the next cool place to coexist. Hidden markets snuggle up to cramped trattorias where waitstaff call out your order rather than ring it in. It's these little enclaves that elevate Ostiense's ever-rising street cred. The whole area is now moving up-market thanks also to Rome's new university campus, Roma Tre. Ostiense is full of typical Roman restaurants, and prides itself on being one of the districts for the young.Add in the neighborhood's massive train station that ensures easy accessibility, and you'll wonder how Ostiense has kept quiet for so long.
